Certified Instructor Training Program

WAG IT GAMES INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION TRAINING PROGRAM 
The goal of this program is to enhance the instructors ability to use the tools presented in the Instructor Training and Enrichment seminar.

This program is available to those that have completed the in person Instructor Enrichment seminar with Sumac.

Participation in the seminar, registering as a licensed instructor and satisfactory completion of this program complete the process of becoming a certified Wag It Games Instructor.

Four training and four teaching video and written assignments are submitted in a step by step process. Each assignment is reviewed, feedback offered and discussion opened before the next assignment. This process offers the opportunity for the instructor to build their skills with each of assignment.

Instructors are asked to complete this training within a one year period.

TRAINING PROGRAM PROCESS

  • Submit one training video and the set of worksheets for that video.
  • Submit one teaching video and the set of worksheets for that video.
  • Upon review you will receive feedback and an opportunity for questions and discussion.
  • Upon completion of assignment 1 you will be directed to proceed to your second assignment and submit a new set of training and teaching videos and worksheets. 
  • This process will be repeated four times until four sets of training videos and worksheets and four sets of teaching videos and worksheets have been completed.

TRAINING ASSIGNMENTS

TRAINING VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
The goal of the training videos is to show the process of training. Adjustments you make using tools like Observe Interpret Act and Change The Picture to facilitate progress are more important than achieving the final behavior. 

  • Each video should be one of the Training Activity Options listed below.
  • The dog being trained should not already know the behavior.
  • The video should begin with a very brief explanation of your training plan. 
  • Training videos should be 8 -10 minutes long.
  • Training may be done in one session or split into two mini training sessions as needed. If more than one training session is used please combine the two videos into one video.
  • Videos must be shot close enough to show the details of your training.
  • Audio must be loud and clear enough so clickers/yes and all other audio can be heard.

  • Flip and Call to Forward Flip
  • Flying Change and Back Away
  • Windshield Wipers (sit, down or stand)
  • Sit, Down or Stand Call To Side

SNIFF IT TRAINING OPTION - Create one Search Sniff It training video.

  • Search
    • Start with one open container and work up to three covered containers. One container should have the food or scent. Include adding a verbal search cue.

Complete a detailed set of the training worksheets for each video.



TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS

TEACHING VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
The goal of the teaching videos is to show the process of teaching a group class. The skills you use, adjustments you make and how you facilitate the group are much more important than achieving the perfect final behavior. It should include all explanations and demonstrations you might give.

  • Each video should be one of the Training Activity Options listed below.
  • The teams being trained should not already know the behavior.
  • The class must consist of 3 or 4 dog/handler teams. 
  • The teams should not already know the behavior. 
    • The less skills the teams have the more opportunity so show the instructional process.
  • Each training video should be 8 -10 minutes long.
  • The video should be shot wide enough so that the entire group is visible at all times. 
  • Audio must be loud and clear enough so clickers/yes and all communication between the instructor and students can be heard.
